The Royal Akarana Yacht Club is pleased to announce the signing of a new reciprocity agreement with the Royal Suva Yacht Club (RSYC), strengthening and reaffirming the long-standing relationship between the two historic yachting communities.
Both clubs share rich maritime traditions and a commitment to developing sailors at every level – from grassroots learn-to-sail pathways to high performing sailors. RAYC and RSYC each play a central role in their local communities, offering members a welcoming home on and off the water. This new agreement formalises a natural partnership built on shared values of connection to the ocean and fostering the next generation of sailors.
RAYCโs relationships with Fijian yachting stretches back to the first iteration of the Auckland-Suva Ocean Race, held in 1956,
To celebrate the agreement, RAYC is delighted to be hosting a visiting group of RSYC sailors and coaches for a week-long training exchange fromย 15โ19 January. Throughout the week, the group will join RAYC academy sailors for joint coaching sessions, skill-building clinics and coach development activities.
The exchange will culminate in a friendlyย Auckland vs. Suva Regattaย onย Saturday 20 January, giving young sailors from both clubs the chance to test their skills from the week of training, build friendships and experience the excitement of international competition in a local & supportive environment. Sailors from neighbouring clubs are also invited to come and race with our Fijian friends.
The RAYC General Committee and leadership team welcome this agreement as an exciting new chapter for both clubs, especially with two of Fijis most recent Olympic representatives training from RAYC in the lead up to the Paris 2024 games.
Further details of the training programme and regatta schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
