This weekend sailors from all over New Zealand competed in New Zealand’s most infamous yacht race the PIC Coastal Classic. RAYC had seven boats sailing under the burgee in the 40th edition of the race and all raced extremely well in some very challenging conditions.

The race began in light breeze which saw the larger yachts steam ahead. However, as the fleet made it passed Tiri the breeze began to build steadily with some teams recording upwards of 40 knots by the time they reached Cape Brett. Unfortunately, a sailor lost their life in the rough conditions and we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and crew of this competitor.

The RAYC teams all put on some great racing and we saw some fantastic results from all our members and boats. Congratulations everyone and we are so pleased to have you home.
