Last week the RAYC Sailing Academy was in full swing with our Term 3 School Holiday Program. Over 50 sailors took part in our Sail and Play, Optimist Fast Track, and Race Group sessions, and luckily we managed to squeeze lots of sailing in before the wastewater started overflowing into the harbour!
We also welcomed back our international coaches Nico Pini and Lola Verge who were valuable members of our coaching team last summer, and we are delighted to have them back with us this season. Joining them are two new international coaches Jake and Ellie from the UK.
Our ILCA squad had a two-day intensive clinic on Wednesday and Thursday with Coach Maria as a lead-up to last weekend’s YNZ Youth Championships. It was great for the sailors to be able to train in the heavy winds that then carried on throughout the regatta. We really saw the benefits of this clinic pay off in their results.
Our Optimist Fast Track levels and Sail and Play sailors had lots of fun in the breeze as well, practising their capsizes and ripping around the bay. The School Holiday Program is a great way for these sailors to progress their sailing ready for Term 4 and the summer season, as sailors are able to complete a whole course in just four days instead of 8 weeks. These programmes were extremely popular last week and we expect Fast Track Levels to fill up quickly for Term 4 so BOOK NOW.
