The Yates Cup is is a 230 nautical mile race taking the fleet from Orakei, to Channel Island, Cuvier, Great Barrier, Poor Knights, Sail Rock and then back to Orakei. 130 nautical mile race taking the fleet from Orakei, to Channel Island, Sail Rock, then back to Orakei.

The race it’s designed as a training race for larger offshore events such as Round White Island, Three Kings, ANZ Sail Fiji and Sail Noumea.

Amendment to the Sailing Instructions # 1

Posted Wednesday 22nd November – 2130 hours.

The course for the Yates Cup is amended to the following:

  • Start Orakei
  • Channel Island – Port
  • Sail Rock – Port
  • Finish Orakei

The course is approximately 130nm.

Due to the shortened course, the record set by Rio Racing and Frank Racing will not be challenged, however the winners are eligible to win the Yates Cup. However the cup is in our container outside of Auckland, so the official winners will be engraved at a later date.

Posted Thursday 23 November – 1415 hours.

15. RADIO COMMUNCIATION AND POSITION REPORTING PROCEDURE [DP]

Delete 15.3 and replace it with:

15.3 All boats are required to contact Coastguard on the following VHF Channels after passing and/or rounding the following:
Channel Island:- VHF Channel 60 or 64
Sail Rock:- VHF Channel 60 or if no response 05

When calling in all yachts are required to say the following:

“Coastguard Radio, Coastguard Radio. This is [BOAT NAME], [CALL SIGN], (repeat), racing in the Yates Cup at location, [Channel Island or Sail Rock]”
