This weekend was a slow one with very little action on the water. However there is always something going on at Akarana!
Steve Crockett, who used to be the head of coaching here at RAYC, made a visit back to support the club by hosting a Maritime VHF Radio Operators course for RAYC members. A number of paddlers had signed up but were either unwell or called in to work. This left our junior sailors representing Akarana.
Harry Butler, Henry McLachlan and Eli Liefting along with Head Coach Nathan Laurie spent the day in the classroom completing activities and learning proper radio protocol. Fantastic result with all involved passing and gaining their VHF qualification!
A huge thanks to Steve Crockett for giving up his Sunday to hold the course!
There will be another VHF course scheduled at a later date, keep your eye on the newsletter for more details!
