Update from MC38 “Menace”

Well a few weeks have passed but better late than never! Here is a our regatta report from the MC38 Autumn Regatta hosted by Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.

The results were mixed, day one was ok. Race 2 was a bit of an own goal with a bad gybe just before the finish sending us down the leader board, dicing for the lead to 4th. Bounce back with a gun then another own goal, 5th, then back up the front for the final gun of the day, not sure what Chappo was thinking with that final tack, this kept us in the hunt close with Dark Star and Ginger, us all within one point at the end of the day. Talk about a up and down day!

Day two was breezier and we where excited to finally get a send or two in some breeze but the day couldn’t have started any worse, first race we lost the main on the 2nd beat in a reasonable position to end up last, hopes of a regatta win gone 🙁

Team showed great guts and composure to finish the race, fix the boat with seconds to spare take a third in the next race and the final race another gun to help the Dark Star team take the regatta and get us on the podium. Great to see Team Vino really find their groove on the final day. While a little disappointed to have gear failure rule us out of the win we where stoked to get a third and finish the regatta with the most bullets.

Well done to Dark Star who where definitely took out a deserved win, but we are game on for the series!

We did have some great sends and the traffic kept us on our toes, especially the Sunday with the CYC race on, few wide eyed cruisers as the fleet came charging through at 18-20 knots flying down hill.

Look forward to our next regatta at MHYC on the 20/21 June!

Here’s a wee vid of the event.
