The current building back in the day

Continuing from last week’s story about the present Clubhouse you may like to know that the construction took from October 1952 to 22 August 1953.

At a ceremony for the Club’s opening the Hon. Secretary, Clive Power, welcomed over a thousand people. Following a gun salute and hoisting of the ensign by Duncan Rae, M.P. the building was formally handed over by Mr T. Bishop, chairman of the Auckland

Harbour Board. His Worship the Mayor, Sir John Allum, declared it open. This was the second Clubhouse for RAYC as he first one was sold in 1944 as land for the Tasman air base.
