Sunday 28 June 2015 – A day in history

Sunday 28 June will mark an important chapter in the history of Royal Akarana Yacht Club.

For the first time in the club’s history, a youth fleet of club members will race on the same course as our senior sailors.

Over the past 24 months, the RAYC Sailing Academy has been working hard to train and develop young sailors.  These sailors were successful at the recent Feva New Zealand Nationals with members Eli Leifting & Rose Dickson along with Hamish McLaren & Henry McLaughlan being selected to attend the Worlds which will be raced in July in Germany.

The young fleet has also been attending the Auckland Junior Winter Sprint Series, which is a travelling event around Auckland clubs and an event that RAYC will become involved in for the first time in 2016.

All members are invited to come to the club after sailing on Sunday to meet the next generation of RAYC sailors! The fleet will be racing in the vicinity of Mechanics Bay with viewing areas along Tamaki Drive.

The first warning signal will be fired at 1300 hours.

Louis Ralph was the RAYC Feva Sailor of the Year but also races in an Optimist

Joining the youth sailors on the course will be a fleet of Flying 15’s and the odd skiff and moth if the conditions are suitable.

Come on down to the club on Sunday afternoon and be a part of RAYC’s history and future.
