Sunday’s harbour course race was a light wind affair with the forecast sea-breeze failing to materialise. Phil Quinn in the VX One, NMac and Sanders in the RS700s started mid-line hoping for the wind to swing right, while Evans in the Musto bagged the pin end and held the lead at Resolution. The starboard-biased downwind to North Head buoy was all about staying in the thin bands of pressure struggling to make their way down the harbour: all boats took distance out of the Musto with Evans creeping up to the bottom mark in less than 8 knots. On the fickle return to Resolution, NMac went left at Torpedo while Sanders hugged the Devonport shore leaving the only option for Evans to go up the middle in an attempt to cover both. A short downwind to Torpedo was followed by an interesting reach to Bean Rock with the single-handed skiffs just able to hold kites in the average wind, but then having to bear off toward Fiji in the gusts. Sanders traded places with the VX One and NMac did the Buffalo Girls thing and sailed round the outside to shepherd the fleet home.
