Research of the history of our Club can produce some interesting snippets:

The North Shore Yacht Club, which we suppose must now be given its new name of the Akarana Yacht Club, is losing no time in pushing on the matter of a clubhouse decided on at the annual meeting. This will necessitate the issuing of debentures… several offer to take debentures to a substantial amount have already been made.Auckland Star,7 October 1922

The name of the North Shore Yacht Club (Auckland) has been altered to Akarana Yacht Club; the old title, however, is to be incorporated in the new name. Evening Post,21 October 1922

At the request of the Akarana Yacht Club the letter V was allotted for the Association in the new 18 foot class. Wizard being at once registered as No. 1. This class will include eight new boats of the Sea Spook type on a larger scale, also the two patiki type boats built by Mr Arch Logan and several other boats already build which have had to fit in where they could. Auckland Star 21 October 1922

This and other gems can be unearthed when researching the rich history of our Club whose initiation was in 1895 as the North Shore Sailing Club. The researchers do need more help in this work so if you either have computer skills or time to spend in the library please contact Marian Harkness on 09-431-6332 or marian@calimex.co.nz
