RAYC’s First Recorded Opening Day

The origins of our Club date from November 1895 when the North Shore Sailing Club was instituted. Although November will be our 120th “birthday” which we will be celebrating as our Opening Day on Sunday 18th October, the first recorded Opening Day was 20 November 1897 as per the attached copy of a notice in the New Zealand Herald. The Archives division of the Club has researched the first five years of the North Shore Sailing Club, as well as several subsequent years.

We do still need more volunteers to research some of the outstanding years – either on line for Papers Past or through libraries for those without a computer.

To help please contact Marian Harkness on 524-4968 or calimex@clear.net.nz.
