RAYC Sailors Announced in NZL Sailing Team for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Sky Sport NZ were on location at the club this morning for a live streamed announcement of the Kiwi sailors who will represent New Zealand at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Honourary Life Members Peter Burling, Blair Tuke, Alex Maloney and Molly Meech have been announced in the team in the 49er and 49erFX classes respectively.

Alex Maloney & Molly Meech

Pete & Blair will be going for their third Olympic Games together and Alex and Molly their second.

Pete & Blair already have a silver (2012) and gold (2016) under their belts and Alex and Molly got the silver in 2016.

They will be joined by fellow members Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson who will make their Olympic debut in the Nacra 17 class. Micah and Erica only recently started sailing together and have been working incredibly hard to get to the point of selection, but there was no denying their ability after the finished 7th at the 2020 World Championships in Geelong, Australia back in February.

Also joining them in Tokyo, but in a different manner, is Suellen Hurling, who was accepted as an independent accredited media outlet to cover sailing for her website Live Sail Die.

Congratulations to all our members!
