Sir Peter Blake Regatta Torbay Regatta was held on the 5th and 6th of December. The regatta has quickly become NZ’s largest centreboard regatta and one of the most respected sailing events in Australasia with over 450 competitors.
Rose Dickson and Eli Liefting represented RAYC in the RS Feva class. The conditions were challenging with off shore breeze up to 25 knots both Saturday and Sunday and provided a great entertainment for those watching. 6 races were sailed over 2 days. Rose and Eli convincingly won every start and lead around every mark, subsequently winning all 6 races, one by over 8 minutes against a lot of older and more experienced competitors, taking out first place in the RS Feva series.
Henry McLachlan, Hamish McLaren and Harry Butler represented RAYC in the Optimist open fleet. It was a great couple of days sailing with plenty of sunshine and good breeze. The racing was competitive and the boys did well in such a big fleet with Hamish finishing the best at 33rd out of 84.
The green fleet was equally big and it was great to see two new sailors from RAYC competing in this fleet. Well done to Oscar Van Druten and Timon Tasker who both competed for the very first time in a regatta.
