Over the weekend, RAYC held their first ever Junior Club Championship as part of their Sail Akarana regatta. With six entries in the RS Feva and five in the Optimist, there was a good turn out for our growing junior fleets.
The RS Feva class was dominated by Rose Dickson with her crew Poppy Hoskin, winning all six of the races sailed in conditions which ranged from blustery on Saturday and light and shifty on Sunday. Following Rose and Poppy closely in every race were Maddison Couwenberg with crew Mia Horton who scored second in all of their races. Third and fifth place were hotly contested with Oscar Little and Frances Douglas-Thomson taking third on count-back from Cameron Todd and Danny Su while Lizzy Hayman and Ines Horton took fifth on count-back from Max Simes-Foster and Thomas Buchanan.

The Optimist class provided some nail-biting racing for all involved. Charlie Thomlinson was the most consistent of the weekend and didn’t finish a race outside the top two. Eli Liefting came in five points behind Charlie in second with an uncharacteristic bunch of mid-fleet results, posting only a single race win for the weekend. Every competitor had the lead in a race at one point or another which shows an overall improvement in the level of junior sailing at RAYC.

Well done and congratulations to all the junior sailors who competed at the weekend!
