Ran Tan II, owned and skippered by Brian Petersen, celebrated his birthday in style today when he and his crew on the Elliot 50 crossed the Akarana 350 finish line at 10:24:14.
Ran Tan II now holds the inaugural Akarana 350 race record – 1 Day, 16 Hours, 19 Minutes, 14 Seconds
Peterson was all smiles when he and his team finished saying that it was a “great race and definitely one to stay on the offshore calendar”.
Crew member Zib Campbell said that Friday was a “glamour day on the water, however last night was rather wet!”
The wet was the intense rain band that soaked the fleet.
The next boat due to finish is Miss Scarlet followed by Anarchy who reported that they passed the Poor Knights early Saturday morning.
“Managed to get past the Knights early this morning, got a bit lucky with the tight reach from the Hole in the Wall up past the Barrier and onto the Knights. Only two tacks at the end to get there. So now we’re VMG running down to Sail Rock, sadly the breeze has not really held so the downwind send we were expecting (and in one way felt we deserved after the wet rainy all night bash North) has not really eventuated. Looks like the Ran Tan team has nailed it but we’re not too far behind our mates on Miss Scarlett. Morale super high on board the mighty Anarchy, plenty of Freeze Dried excited both ends of a bunch of us last night and this morning!”
Motorboat 2, with Damon Jolliffe and Josh Tucker reported they were still learning their new boat but were having a great time in the race.
