It was a perfect day on the water for the Optimist team to join in the racing with the skiffs, flying 15s and M Class for the first time in the Sunday Summer Series. It was busy on the water with the skiffs screaming past at speed and carefully missing the Optimists who had no chance to get out of the way. The Opti sailors spent their time trying to hitch a ride with the 18ft skiff teams, but had no luck.
The Opti racing was competitive between the sailors with the highlight being race 2 where Hamish McLaren and Harry Butler battled it out for 3rd and 4th on the finish line with Hamish sneaking through by centimetres in the last ½ second. It is good to see such close racing and starts from our Opti sailors. Eli Liefting had a strong day on the water to take all 3 races placing him first on line and handicap in the series with plenty more racing to come. Henry McLachlan also had a sound day on the water with two seconds and a third.
It was a great day all round and the Opti sailors are looking forward to more fleet racing in the Summer Series.
