RAYC members, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, continue to dominate the 49er fleet. At the recent Olympic Test Event held in Rio the pair has brought their winning streak to 20 straight regattas. After some uncharacteristic mid-fleet finishes, the golden pair won four of the final seven races to take the gold medal by 11 points.
Pete and Blair have won every 49er event they have entered since the 2012 Olympic Games where they achieved Silver. On top of this, Peter Burling is also the International Moth World Champion and RAYC Yachtsmen of the year.
Fellow members and New Zealand’s 49erFX team, Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech, also competed at the Olympic Test Event. The girls are ranked second in the ISAF world rankings, behind the Brazilian team who won on home waters and regularly visit RAYC to train. Alex and Molly finished just outside the podium positions in 4th place, however this has only fuelled their passion to do even better at the big event next year: “This position isn’t too much fun, so with a year to go we will make sure to make it count! Time to learn and grow!” – Alex & Molly.
Keep at it RAYC Olympic sailors! You have our full support!
