It’s day one of racing for the Hyundai NZ 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships being hosted by Royal Akarana Yacht Club and the place is humming with activity as the sailors prepare to hit the water.
The Royal Akarana Yacht Club has achieved a lot in its 124 year history and just a handful of months ago we opened our new facility at the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre. Located on the waterfront of Okahu Bay with views of Rangitoto and the city skyline, RAYC has propelled itself forward as a leading yacht club in New Zealand, and the world.
Its taken 30 plus years to get the new facility to go from a dream to reality, and today marks an important date in the club’s history.

Suellen from Live Sail Die (and RAYC) caught up with the club Commodore Matt Woodley to have a chat about the facility, the location and how excited he was to be involved with the event.
