On Tuesday 20th November, we unloaded our brand new fleet of 20 Lasers which became the first items to officially move into the new building.
The 20 Lasers were supplied by Performance Sailcraft Australia and are available in standard, radial and 4.7 configuration with carbon top sections.
Andrew Brookland, General Manager of the Akarana Marine Sports Charitable Trust, has been leading the redevelopment of the club for over six years was emotional when he saw the container doors open revealing, the boats for the first time. But it wasn’t so much the boats that brought a tear to his eye, it was the fact that something was moving in the building, which is due to open in 2019 after more than 30 years of trying.
Brookland has been involved with the club since 2012 with his main focus has been on opening the club doors of our brand new home.
“Today is a milestone,” said Brookland. “It’s been six years and many months since of hard work and to put something into the building is pretty exciting. There has been a fair bit of effort to get to this point, but this is what it’s all about.”
The boats are available for charter for major regattas and will also be utilised for youth and adults who are keen to learn more about the sport in a structured environment.
