Keith Peachey turned the sod

Wednesday 12 April was a very special day.  The incessant, driving rain from Cyclone Cook cleared with a window for us to perform the Turning of the First Sod for the start of building our new Clubhouse.  Six people with spades dug up the mud.  One was Keith Peachey, aged 90, a third generation Akarana member.  His father and grandfather were also members and both he and his father were present at the Sod turning event of the Clubhouse that has just been demolished.  Keith, and Keith Peachey Senior, were both Mullet men and we have been given photos of each of them in their respective Mullet boats.

The event was well organized by the Akarana Marine Sports Charitable Trust for the Hyundai Marine Sports Club which will include the Auckland Sailing Club.  At the Club, where RAYC has temporary offices, all visitors were given complimentary drinks and tasty snacks and it was a chance to catch up with old friends.  Surely a great day to remember.

Congratulations to all involved with the arrangements from the Archives Team.
