Iron Duke

Around this time 85 years ago the incumbent Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe was in Auckland and played for the Pakuranga Hunt in their annual cricket match against the local farmers.  Later His Excellency was to sail the Iron Duke in a 14ft one-design race connected to the Tamaki West carnival.  Lady Jellicoe, accompanied by Captain Southey, boarded the yacht Victory during the Akarana Yacht Club’s general handicap for the Dunning Cup (also in conjunction with the carnival).

This is the sort of information the Archives team are finding and ensuring that members will have accurate and detailed information about our past. But we really do need help – from those who are computer literate or interested in documenting donated books and other items to ensure that this material is readily available to present and future members.
