Friday 9th October saw the latest step in RAYC’s push to grow our junior fleet. The Twilight Racing was an idea put together to provide a stepping stone for our Academy sailors to use to get some racing experience before heading off to regattas.
The first event saw 10 kids (two of them RAYC coaches) take to the water in the club Fevas. The Race Officer was Scott McLaren who did a fantastic job of getting races away quickly which meant we completed four races in spite of a delayed start to the first race.
Honorary RAYC committee boat was once again “Akarana Ray” kindly volunteered by Chris Ralph. Everyone on the water had a great time with only a few minor bumps and bruises. The winner of the racing was Harry Butler & Oscar van Druten on countback from Hamish McLaren & Ines Horton. In keeping with the fun and friendly nature of the racing, Harry was then asked to draw a name out of a hat to select the winner of the spot prize which went to Hamish McLaren.
All-in-all a fantastic evening with more planned over the summer months. We would like to encourage any of our senior volunteers to come down and help out and see some of the fantastic young talent we have at RAYC.
