Alternatively\, you can bring your own boat if you prefer. \nRacing is open to both RAYC Members and non-Members\, and takes place inside the sticks at Okahu Bay so is perfect for friends and family who are parked up at the Eatery bar to cheer you on. Established in 2003\, this annual regatta is now a highlight of the sailing calendar for New Zealand sailors and a growing number of overseas sailors from Australia and the Pacific too.\nWhen is it?\nThe regatta takes place at the end of January\, in the week preceding Auckland & Northland Anniversary Weekend each year. \nThe 4-day regatta format includes Registration on the Tuesday evening\, followed by three days of racing Wednesday to Friday\, with Prizegiving on Friday evening. \nWhere does it take place?\nAs the name suggests\, Bay of Islands Sailing Week is held in the spectacular Bay of Islands\, on the east coast of Northland in the upper North Island of New Zealand. The location boasts superb sailing\, stunning scenery\, bountiful marine life and friendly locals. \nRegatta HQ\nThe regatta is based in Opua\, a small coastal town located just off SH11 a few kilometres south of Paihia. They’ve been assigned a school project to take on an environmental issue and make a difference to a local area. Luckily for us they’ve chosen Okahu Bay/Beach and asked for the support of the club and it’s members! \nCome down and give them a hand before Akarana Series racing on Sunday the 5th of November. We’ll have a pre-racing sausage sizzle to fuel up and some prizes to be won for our best rubbish collectors! \nWe’ll be starting from the far end (by Kelly Tarltons) of Okahu Beach at 11am and working out way across the beach and back to the club. We’re aiming to be wrapped up by 12:15 for everyone to rig and get ready for afternoon racing. So if you’re already planning on coming to race or don’t have any plans yet\, we’d love you to come down to collect some rubbish\, clean the beach\, help the environment! \nBYO gloves & litter picker.
