Bhutty Moore 31km downwind race at Mt Maunganui

The Butty Moore race is a memorial to Jame Bhutty Moore to drown at sea while paddling from Maketu to the Mount in 2008, and every year, paddlers from across the country heat to Mt Maunganiu to race and to celebrate his life.

The Bhutty Moore race is a 31km downwind event which starts either at Waihi beach or Maketu, depending on conditions and wind and this year attracted record numbers.

RAYC had a awesome turn out with plenty of paddlers heading down and took all bragging rights in the open mens category by placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in the event.

1st – Simon Longdill
2nd – Andy Mowlem
3rd – Garth Spencer
4th –  Jeremy Kuggeleijn
