RAYC 49erFX sailors Alex Maloney and Molly Meech have won the gold medal at the Sailing World Cup in Miami. This is a massive win for the girls as they prepare for the Rio Olympic Games this year.
Before heading off to Miami, Alex and Molly were training at the club where they keep their 49erFX.
“We’re pretty happy to come away with a win this week,” explained Meech. “We haven’t looked at the results this week so we are kind of surprised. Last year we came away with a win in Miami so it’s nice to do it again.”
“We had a pretty up and down season in 2015 so it’s nice to start this one off on top again so hopefully we can continue.”
“We’ve had a pretty good summer back home in New Zealand and then coming over here we’ve felt fresh. We’ve been working on a few things and it’s another step forward for us.”
Congratulations girls! We are so proud of you both!
