The Akarana Series kicks off again on Sunday 2nd February with our regular fleets back on the ramp and ready to race.
Due to the Hyundai NZ 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships which the club hosted, our regular racing was put on hiatus to accommodate the international visitors and to ensure that the regatta had full use of the site.
The M-Class fleet took advantage of the time and headed to Kawau for three weekends of racing. The 18′ Skiffs took a short break but are now back into regular training and the 12′ Skiffies towed their boats to various locations to mix it up. A lot of the Flying 15 sailors took the opportunity to partake in other racing across different fleets.
But now it’s all back on, and Sunday 2nd February is also the infamous Ffemmy teams race with the M-Class and Flying 15’s going head to head for the right to be the first to start for the rest of the season. The M-Class fleet are the current holders of the FFemmy and with their recent training sessions, are confident they can hold onto the title.
The 18′ Skiffs and 12′ Skiffs will race on Saturday 1st February as well, with the 18’s using the weekend as their “Nationals” and the 12’s Skiffs will race their Interdominion Selection Trials.
There has been a change to the schedule to accommodate the 18′ Skiffs and and 12′ Skiffs. View the change here » https://rayc.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/AK-Series-Amd2.pdf
