Yates Cup – Rio Racing Update #1

1155 and we are enjoying a nice sail heading toward channel island.
The start was pretty exciting…. more on that later
BG was first around rangi setting the big spinnaker in 10 knots of wind.   V70 was second and we were tailing the pack,  but soon after setting the spinnaker … our downwind prowess started to pay off and we worked lower and faster than the lead pair and sailed into the lead.   Those boats will have their time to shine when we get into more reaching conditions we think… but since we are sailing essentially a brand new boat… we are all still learning our sweet spots.
we are now about an hour from channel island.. vmg running in 13 knots of wsw wind.   Bg is about a half mile astern and the v70 a touch more back..  the breeze has built a bit as we sail out into the outer hauraki..
beautiful sunny day and champagne sailing conditions… all the locals are showing us the great fishing spots we are sailing past
