The Royal Akarana Yacht Club got into the spirit of Fathers Day and hosted their inaugural Fathers Day Challenge!

Raced in the club 420’s, five dads and their kids took to the water directly in front of the club for the most epic of all challenges.

It was Dad against Dad. Kid against kid. Pride and reputation was on the line.

Chris Dickson and his daughter Grace took out the series in a clean sweep with four wins, however it wasn’t all easy sailing! Dicko almost fell out of the boat just after the start of the first race and had a close call with potential capsize during the final race.

Michael Pollard and his son Ashe Renault-Pollard took second place overall ahead of Andrew Brokenshire and his daughter Georgia who had her first ever sailing experience during todays racing.

Jeff Butler and his son Harry pulled off some awesome manoeuvres finishing fourth and Chris Ralph with son Louis spent most of their time capsized but never once stopped smiling finished in fifth.

The blustery westerly winds took out most of the fleet with everyone getting their toes wet!

It was an awesome day on the water watching the kids have such great experiences with their offspring. That’s the thing about sailing, It’s a sport for life. A sport for family.
