The lightest of Westerlies allowed the skiffs off on a single lap return to Devonport. McCallum and Evans taking the left up into Mechanics Bay, Sanders and Bailey crossing the run-out tide early and plying the Devonport shore. At the top no one could find Devenport racing buoy, perhaps it had sunk or been stolen. The fleet continued to Stanley Point at which time the sea breeze arrived with the force of a Hyundai HD75 truck, making the second leg a wild ride back to Orakei. With Bean Rock reading 25-29 knots Evans tried to cross the line under spinnaker but capsized letting McCallum through to win.

  4. RS700 721 Big Buoy II Sanders

The wind settled in time for the second start. Bailey got the better of the fleet and made good progress to Resolution before being chased down by NMac and Evans. The next leg was actually downwind, the first for 2 weeks! McCallum parked up mid shipping lane in a lull, rounded North Head 3 boat lengths behind Evans, then sailed fast low mode through Evans’ lee to reach Tamaki Drive first and tack for his second win of the day. Bailey got the better of Sanders again, who was rueing the day he said that Mustos spent more time capsized than RS700s.
