Royal Akarana Yacht Club is proud to be the home of Sailability Auckland. It has long been said that sailing is a sport for everyone, and the guys from Sailability Auckland are the epitome of this! Sailability Auckland provides sailing opportunities for young and old and across a range of abilities, including those who have that competitive spirit and want to compete at the highest level of their sport.

Tim Dempsey & Gemma Fletcher are two such individuals. Dempsey, a former Paralympic sailor, suffers from Muscular Dystrophy which is a progressive muscle wasting condition, while Fletcher, an upcoming young sailor, received a spinal injury after a severe car accident at the age of four and has been a wheelchair user since. Sailing the SKUD18 together since 2013 they have achieved Gold at the previous two Sail Auckland events in 2014 & 2015 along with a Silver at Sail Melbourne which was their latest World Cup event. Their goal is to get to the 2016 Paralympics in Rio and win the first paralympic medal in sailing for New Zealand. They have a really good shot of making this dream a reality, however they need your help to do it!

The cost for getting these inspiring sailors to the World Cup events and most importantly to Rio totals at $35,000 so the cost is hefty. This is where we need your help!

Working with Explore New Zealand, Tim & Gemma have set up an opportunity to have a real Americas Cup racing experience on NZL41 and NZL68. Racing against other corporate crews, your team members can take the helm to steer you to victory or work hard on the grinders. The less adventurous can cheer from the spectator boat and enjoy the morning or afternoon on the sparkling Waitemata Harbour. Not only a memorable experience, you will also be supporting some of our finest NZ sailors achieve their goal… to win our first Paralympic Sailing medal at Rio in 2016!

The cost will be $6000 (tax deductible donation) per boat to race. Each boat can take a maximum of 25 people on board. There will be two racing sessions so that means there are 4 spaces up for grabs. On board you will have a secret weapon, Alex Maloney & Molly Meech (future Olympic sailors and 2013 49erFX world champs) to assist your team around the course. There will also be a spectator boat available at a cost of $50 per person which will include a complimentary glass of wine and light nibbles. This experience will include spot-prizes for both sailors and spectators.
