ANZ Sail Fiji 2016 starts on Saturday 4 June in the vicinity of the Orakei buoy on Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour, and ends at the Denarau Marina in Nadi, Fiji.
Acting CEO ANZ Fiji, Saud Minam, said the sponsorship aligned perfectly with ANZ’s priority of supporting tourism growth in Pacific markets, including Fiji and the likes of Samoa, Cook Islands and Vanuatu.
“We are fully committed to initiatives such as this that help put Fiji on the map,” Mr Minam said. “We also appreciate that tourism is a very important part of building a prosperous nation, accounting for about 35% of Fiji’s GDP and is the nation’s largest foreign exchange earner.”
Royal Akarana Yacht Club Vice Commodore and ANZ Sail Fiji Race Director Sally Garrett said there is great anticipation and excitement leading up to the race, now in its 22nd year.
“We are most grateful for ANZ Fiji’s support through sponsorship of NZ$20,000 and acknowledge ANZ’s strategic advantage of connectivity between the Pacific and New Zealand which has enabled this great partnership,” said Ms Garrett.
“The race is set to attract a large racing and cruising contingency from New Zealand, Australia and beyond.
“It’s going to be a great event! I am really looking forward to being out on HMNZS Manawanui for the start, and watching the fleet on their way up.”
